5 Environmental Factors That Prove that Vinyl Fences are the Best Weatherproof Fence

5 Environmental Factors That Prove that Vinyl Fences are the Best Weatherproof Fence

The best option to fight back against the weather is with a maintenance-free and heavy-duty vinyl fence.

A fence is an excellent addition to any yard. Weeks upon weeks of planning go into installing your yard’s landscape, and the last thing you want for is it to all come down. Unfortunately, there is only so much we can do as fence owners to protect it from the harsh elements. Rain will fall, and the sun will shine. The best option is to fight back with a maintenance-free and heavy-duty vinyl fence. Here are five of the most common environmental dangers that vinyl fences can deflect, making it the ideal option for a weatherproof fence in your backyard.

Corrosion

Corrosion caused by rain is one of the most prevalent dangers to any fence. Metal fences have a harder time keeping their shine throughout the years when rainfall is a factor in your area’s climate. Moisture can do plenty of damage to wood. After time, it will wear away wood fiber in a process called delignification. Vinyl fences give you a naturally waterproof fence. There is no need to spend money on costly strains and new paints that you have to apply to a wooden fence every spring.

Extreme Winds

Natural disasters like tornadoes and hurricanes are unavoidable if you live in certain parts of the country. But the one weather pattern that’s very consistent across the country is wind. If your property sits on high ground or in a valley, then stronger wind gusts can shift your fence posts. Vinyl fences are flexible, which allows the vinyl to reset after heavy winds. You could also ground vinyl fence posts with some other material. A fence with concrete footing is much more stable in the ground, making shifting almost impossible.

Insects

Wooden fences in warmer climates are a bigger target for insect infestations. Insects that could damage your fence include termites, wood-boring beetles, and carpenter ants. All of these insects love to feast on wood. Beetles will even lay eggs inside your fence. Once they hatch, the larvae remain in the wood and eat away at the fence until they grow wings and find more wood somewhere else. Vinyl fences are made of plastic that doesn’t attract bugs. Humid conditions don’t soften vinyl as it does with wood, making it easier and weaker for bugs to infiltrate.

Sun

Prolonged sun exposure to your fence will either make the color of your fence fade over time. Or it will dry up the moist wood and pull apart the fibers of your fence, all depending on the climate. Vinyl fences will thrive in all temperatures, without losing shape or color.
