It’s summertime, and the living is easy. While you spend the day relaxing outdoors and planning last-minute vacations, don’t forget to maintain your beautiful new composite deck addition. Composite decking requires minimal maintenance, but taking care of your property ensures that it lasts for years to come. Discover how you can clean and care for your new deck with the following tips.
Removing Dirt & Debris
Leaves, limbs, and potted plants can quickly build up on your new deck. Once you remove the larger items from the area, simply use a soft bristle brush to remove any stains or marks. Mix soap with warm water and scrub the area in a criss-cross motion.
Post Cookout Cleaning
Throwing a deck party is one of the many joys of summer, but it’s important to clean up quickly afterward. Grease, food, and beverages can create large stains, but luckily they’re easy to remove. Once your guests have left, spray the area with a hose. Use a mixture of soap and water to remove spills with a microfiber towel or brush.
Assessing Mold & Mildew
If you don’t remove the dirt and pollen that builds up on your deck, mold can develop beneath the surface. If you find mold or mildew on your composite deck, spray the entirety of the area with a hose. If it doesn’t clear away initially, use a brush to scrub the affected areas.
Pressure Washing
If you plan to pressure wash your deck, do your homework first. Improperly pressure washing the area could cause more harm than good. Ensure that you rinse your deck thoroughly after spraying each individual deck board, so dirty water cannot dry on the surface. Do not hold the fan tip closer than eight inches to the surface, or you could cause damage to the materials.
